The Independent National Electoral
Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports suggesting that the 2019 presidential and National Assembly elections conducted in
FCT, Abuja has been cancelled.
INEC said the commision has not cancelled
any elections results in the FCT or
anywhere in the country.
Professor Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of
INEC, said this in Abuja on Sunday at the
end of a brief interaction with the media.
When asked if FCT, Abuja elections results
were cancelled following Saturday’s vote,
Mahmood stated categorically that no
election result was cancelled.
According to Yakubu: “To be honest I am
hearing this for the first time. We have
cancelled no elections not in the FCT, not
anywhere in the country.
“Under the laws we are waiting for the
returning officers to make the declaration
and pass it to the judiciary to make the
final declaration.
“There is one senatorial seat and two
federal constituencies in the FCT. We only
collate the result for the presidential
election and we look at it in the context of
a nationwide no election results have been
cancelled in the Federal Capital Territory or
any part of Nigeria for that matter.”
