MTN subscribers can now subscribe to the Youtube Video Streaming Pack. You can subscribe to one of the two time based youtube data plans which would allow you stream videos on youtube for a specific duration, based on the plan you subscribed for.
Who Can Subscribe to the Youtube Plan?
All MTN subscribers can use it regardless of your tariff plan.
How to Subscribe to the MTN Youtube Data Plan
The MTN Youtube streaming plan has two packs. The table below describes them in detail.
Activation SMS to 131
1 hour YouTube Pack
3 hours YouTube Pack
To subscribe to the 1 hour plan, SMS VP1
to 131. You will be charged N150 and you will get one hour of youtube streaming time.
How is the Streaming Time Calculated?
The streaming time is the total time allocated to watching videos on Youtube. The time will only count when you watch videos. For example, if you subscribe to the 3-hour plan, and you stream a video of 5 minutes, it means that you have burnt 5 minutes out of your 3 hours and you have 2 hours 55 minutes left. This time will only count when you watch videos on Youtube.
Do These Data Plans Expire?
Yes. From the table above, you can see that the validy is 24 hours. This means that you must use up your streaming time within 24 hours otherwise it will expire. If you subscribe by 3PM today, you would have to use it up before 3PM tomorrow.
Can I Roll Over My Remaining Streaming Time?
No, you will not be able to rollover unused data / time. Once it expires, your Youtube data and time will be reset to 0.
Since The Plans are Time Based, Can I Watch as Many Videos as I Want?
This is the interesting part. Even though these packs are time based, MTN has a data capacity on them because of "fair usage policy". The 1 hour plan has a maximum data capacity of 750MB, while the 3-hour plan is capped at 2.25GB.
