Mr A

As the main port serving the oil feilds of the Niger Delta, Port Harcourt has suffered from security problems. Avoid travelling alone. If time and flexibility is limited, visit the State museum at the bottom of Azikiwe Road for outstanding examples of objects from the area's ethnic groups, colourful masks and utensils. There are also a smattering of attractive gardens throughout town.

There are supermarkets on Azikiwe Road and two markets in the Old Township including the bustling and chaotic Creek Road Market.

For upmarket dining, eat at Ororo at Le Meridien Hotel.
Hotel Presidential, on Aba Express way houses Why Not Lebanese Restaurant. And 4,5,6 has some of the best Chinese food in town.
Sopranos Bar (7 Abacha Road, 08033123878) is a local and favourite for night caps.

Le Meridien Ogeyi Place is possibly Nigeria's most luxurious hotel. Each room has a jacuzzi and there is a pool, spa and meeting rooms (45 Tombia steet, GRA Phase II, Port Harcourt, +234(84)465700).
The Protea Hotel Garden City is another good business hotel (Km16 PH/Aba Expressway Port Harcourt, +234(84)465700 as well as the Novotel Port Harcourt (3 Stadium Road Rumuomasi, +234(84)461540)

The Old Township by the water front is the most atmospheric and interesting part of town
