Properly saving or downloading the display pictures of your BBM contacts can be tricky on a BlackBerry Bold, since there is no default way of saving them. I have seen people take screenshots of a DP in other to have that photo saved on their BlackBerry, but doing it that way makes the picture look dirty and horribly compressed since the screen grabber also captures the HUGE black empty spaces around the picture, and your data indicator on the top right corner as well.

I stumbled on a neat little trick to properly save BBM display pictures of my contacts without the black spaces.

1. Open the DP you wish to save.
2. Press the menu button, then choose Send As Email

3. When the email window opens, click on the attachment inside the body of the email to bring up a small option box, as shown in the pic below:

4. From the options shown, choose Open Attachment.

5. This will re-open the display picture, but with an additional option to save it to your phone. Press the menu button to bring up the list of menus. Scroll up to find Save Image, then click on it. Type in the name you wish to save the file with, you do not need to enter a .jpg or .gif

A File Saved confirmation would mean the display picture has been saved to your BlackBerry phone.
