This problem can occur in Blackberry 8520 and other similar blackberry devices where the trackpad may stop working without any reason. To resolve the trackpad problem you should start from updating your firmware to the latest version.
Another method that has worked for many people with this problem is doing a battery pull.
Remember that your blackberry device should be turned on when you pull out the battery, wait for about 30 to 60 seconds before you replace the battery back into the phone.

The battery pull should solve the trackpad problem.
