In Russia, Nigeria's Minister
of Agriculture & Rural Development, Chief
Audu Ogbeh today joined the Global Panel of
Ministers of Agriculture and Delegates at the
20th edition of the Russian Agribusiness
Forum & Agricultural Exhibition, the Golden
Autumn 2018, holding in Moscow.
Chief Audu Ogbeh who is the only Minister
of Agriculture invited from Africa by the
Russian Ministry of Agriculture & Rural
Affairs, is participating alongside Ministers
of Agriculture from Turkey, Japan, Hungary,
Serbia and Qatar.
The Forum which has the theme
"Agriculture Export as a driver for industry
modernization", was declared open by the
Prime Minister, Federation of Russia -
Medvedev Dmitri and has attracted
participants in all agricultural sub-sectors
from all over the world.
In his presentation at the Ministers Global
Panel, Chief Ogbeh talked about the world's
growing populations and the need to
increase food production to meet food
demands especially in africa; climate change
and its adverse impacts on Agriculture in
Africa.
"Africa is the smallest pollutant in the world
but suffers the most from the effects of
climate change, the dessert is approaching
at a very high speed. We need afforestation,
good quality seeds, mechanization and
more research".
Chief Ogbeh also spoke about Nigeria's Agro
export potential and the country's capacity
to produce and export to the rest of the
world, agro produce such as cocoa, coffee,
cashew nuts, castor oil, sesame seeds,
brown beans; and fruits such as mango,
banana and pawpaw etc.
"The reason we come to these meetings is
because we believe that politics should be
removed as far as possible away from food
production because the biggest victims of
hunger are children and the very poor in
rural areas who know little or nothing about
international politics. We are here therefore
to explore opportunities with Russia in the
exchange of food trade, skills and
machineries for the common promotion and
nourishment of mankind", the Minister
stated.
